Sightseeing day through the Canal Saint-Martin

The region of the canal of Saint-Martin that we separated for this post provides an afternoon or some pleasant hours.

It is a very popular area among Parisians and increasingly explored, also, by visitors.

The banks, the nearby green areas and the streets surrounding the canal have their own atmosphere and is an invitation to relax. It reveals so much a nostalgic air that we find in some other areas of the city, as well as a romanticism that reinforces the desire to enjoy every moment and the dream that is to be there, at that moment, in Paris.

The movement on Saturdays and Sundays starts late, almost late in the morning and runs through the night, just like most shops.

To enjoy the place, it is not enough to rain, but the fact is that sunny days give a special shine to this region and render beautiful photos ...

At any time of the year you can explore the beautiful iron bridges, the large trees and the benches scattered along the way. Only rainy days should be avoided. Even the sunless day has its charm. But if you prefer movement, the best season, undoubtedly, are the days of spring or summer, where the place gets more lively and very busy with its fairly crowded spaces.

In summer, in Paris, the already expected Paris Plages event takes place. (See more in our) between July and early September, offering various activities. The novelty of the event is the inauguration of three swimming pools in the basin of La Villete (region near the St-Martin canal). If you are there in this season, you can think of expanding your tour.

You get very close to the canal by metro. 3 stations serve this area: Gare de l'Estast lines: 4, 5 and 7 Jacques Bonsergent - line 5 République - lines: 3, 5, 8, 9

Our route starts at the exit of the subway - station Gare de l'Est. Choose the next exit to the station store Sephora. Cross the rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin and cross the Jardin Villemin.

Here starts your tour! The garden is a pleasant green area which on sunny days is highly sought after.

You cross the garden and soon you see the canal. From that moment on, the program's choices are varied: between the promenade along the promenade, through the shops on the boardwalks, a stop at one of the many bars and restaurants, the boat ride, the picnic on the square or on the canal's edge , or even a little of each of these activities. Yes, it all fits a hot afternoon!

The boat ride is highly sought after, but not unanimously approved. There are those who find it unusual and interesting but also those who find it a little time consuming. The complete route is 2h30, from Port Arsenal (Bastille), to Bassin de la Villette. Here is the preference and time of each one, since the service offered is correct and well recognized. For more information, see the website from canauxarama..

So, from the canal, what are the highlights of our journey and What can you enjoy?

- On the banks of the canal:

You can walk on the edge of the canal, watching the people jiggle, sit on the benches along the banks, notice the movement of the bridges that open and close to give passage to the boats, cross the beautiful iron bridges or buy your snack to share this moment with many who sit on the edges of the canal.
