The Spanish artist, who spent most of his life in France, has the entire sequence of his creativity and technique portrayed in the collection, in addition to his own private collection of other masters.
Located in the Marais, the Hôtel Salé, a beautiful 17th century mansion, houses the organized museum, which reopened, completely renovated, in October 2014.
The museum has one of the most fascinating and photogenic staircases you can see in a 17th century building.
The Musée Picasso collection in Paris houses more than 5,000 works and thousands of documents. The collection is organized in such a way as to allow the visitor a tour of the artist's entire creative process over time.
There are paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, sketches, studies, recordings, documents... A diversity of artistic fields that show the talent of the great artist.
They are splendid collections, from various stages through which Picasso passed, most of the works being donated by his heirs, some in the form of donation in payment for taxes related to the inheritance.
It was decided for install the museum at the Hôtel Salé, which belonged to the city of Paris and was classified as a historic monument in 1968. The building was then restored to receive the collection between 1979 and 1985, when the National Picasso Museum was opened.
After almost 25 years, in a restoration program presented in 2009, the museum was remodeled, reorganized and expanded, updating the palace to the new regulations in force, such as accessibility and greater safety of the works.
The administrative services were relocated, opening more space for the works and improving the circulation of visitors in the building. The five levels (basement, ground floor and three floors) are now dedicated exclusively to exhibitions, which more than doubled the area dedicated to them.
The new Musée Picasso was inaugurated on October 25 (the artist's birthday) 2014 by the then President of the Republic, François Hollande , after almost 5 years of renovations.
If you want to follow a path, here's a tip:
